I used to have furbabies in the past. The last time I had was four years ago and we called her Pepper. She was given to me by my boyfriend then, now my husband, as a present. Unfortunately, my late father became asthmatic so we had to put Pepper into foster care. As much as we would like to have another furbaby, the condo we live in doesn’t allow pets.
Not all dog lovers own one. That’s why I’m delighted to learn that dog cafés are now a thing. I had a not so good impression when I visited a dog café nearby, though. Once I entered the dog café, I wanted to get out right away. The smell irritated my nose and I don’t feel comfortable staying for long. Good thing the beverage I ordered wasn’t available at that time so I used that as a reason to leave.
When I learned about Barkin’ Blends Dog Café, I feared that my sensitive nose would be a problem again. But my good friend, Atty. Yna, who introduced Barkin’ Blends to me, assured that it smells and looks clean.
I decided to bring my family to Barkin’ Blends for our Sunday family bonding. My husband loves dogs and I can see that Gabby has interest in dogs as well.
Barkin Blends is not your ordinary dog café. It looks like a high end restaurant yet gives you a feeling of coziness of a home.
I was honored to meet Bern Aboganda, the sole proprietor behind Barkin’ Blends Dog Café. Guess how old is she. Bern is only 27 years old! She started Barkin’ Blends four (4) years ago. Do the math. Isn’t she amazing?
From around 20 dogs, Barkin’ Blends now have around 40 dogs from a tiny yorkshire terrier to a tall Irish Setter. Unlike the other dog café I visited, Barkin’ Blends has no age limit. Kids 5 years old and below can come and enjoy, too. All the dogs are trained to be sociable.
Gabby had so much fun being surrounded by different breeds of dogs. Some of them are even bigger than her but she didn’t feel scared at all. They are sweet and friendly.
The Dog Zone is squeaky clean and smelling fresh. Something I didn’t expect for a place where around 40 dogs pee and poop hihi
To enter the Dog Zone, a customer should purchase a ticket worth P179 for 1 hour, and P219 for 2 hours, both for single entry. It comes with a beverage of your choice (milk tea, hot or cold coffee, chocolate, frappe etc.) Kids 5 years old and below pay only P150, beverage not included.
There are a variety of food choices available at reasonable prices.
Being surrounded by dogs, caressing them, and touching them have a sort of therapeutic effect. It feels like love goes around the Dog Zone. The 85-year old woman with us there recently lost her Golden Retriever. She seeks comfort at this place.
We need places like this to take a break from the noisy and crowded malls where we could bond with our family and friends.
Good news! Barkin’ Blends is opening another branch at SM North Edsa on December 7, 2018. North peeps, see you there!
